Premier League teams top spending in January transfer window at £300m

Premier League teams topped in the total gross spending across Europe’s “big five” leagues during the last January Transfer Window.  The big five include the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1. The big five spent a total of 735 million euros ($828 million), which was said to have exceeded the 2021 January transfer window with 460 million euros.

Premier League teams spent close to £300 million in the January transfer window, indicated as the “second-highest amount ever spent in the winter transfer window.”

National Daily gathered that the statistics released by Deloitte, a finance company, indicated that the last-minute deals with Luis Diaz, Bruno Guimaraes and Rodrigo Bentancur increased the expenditures of the Premier League teams to £295 million ($398 million).

It was disclosed that the five teams at the bottom of the Premier League table spent about £150 million; this was said to be more than 50 percent of the total.

The big buys include Liverpool signing of Porto’s Colombia winger, Diaz, at a fee of £37.5 million; Newcastle signed Lyon’s Brazilian midfielder, Guimaraes, at £35 million.

Newcastle paid Burnley £25 million to secure New Zealand international striker, Chris Wood, also England defender, Kieran Trippier, at £12 million from Atletico Madrid.
