Presidency 2023: Wike visits Makarfi, says Nigeria bleeds under APC

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Monday commenced mobilization for the unity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the buildup to the 2023 general elections. Wike in his unity campaign, visited former Governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, a former PDP interim chairman, at his residence in Kaduna, where he lamented that Nigeria is bleeding under government of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike stated that the PDP cannot win the 2023 presidential election except the party is united, warning that Nigerians are looking unto  the PDP to reclaim power at the federal level in 2023.

The governor asserted that the task before the PDP is to wrest power from the ruling APC in 2023, advocating for unity among PDP members and leaders. He expressed the fear that Nigerians will not forgive PDP leaders and stakeholders if they are not united to stop the nation from bleeding after the 2023 general elections.

According to Governor Wike: “Nigeria is bleeding, and so if we are not united Nigeria will not forgive us, because every Nigerian is hoping that PDP must come and stop this bleeding, and we require everybody.

“This is not about who wants to run for the presidency, that is not the issue. Who wants to zone presidency, which is not the issue at all.

“The issue here is all of you as a matter of duty must be united. If you like zone presidency to the West if you are not united, can you win an election?”

Governor Wike also berated the APC for lacking in ideas, and the inability to provide solutions to the various problems in Nigeria. He encouraged Nigerians to vote APC out of power in 2023.

“APC has finished Nigeria. There is nothing they can tell us now. They don’t have any other ideas. If they have any idea, they didn’t use it.

“Now is what we call injury time. All promises made now cannot be fulfilled. If they had made a promise for six years and didn’t fulfill it, is it one and half years left that they would fulfill it?

“Leadership is given by God and when a party is in crisis that is when you know who has leadership quality.  When our party was in crisis, when Ali Modu Sheriff was to be used to kill our party, I stood firm, committed, and showed braveness and said look, I have no other place to go other than the PDP!”

Governor Wike provided a rational template for negotiating zoning in the PDP by emphasizing the imperative of unity in the party.

Makarfi had expressed confidence in the political sagacity of Governor Wike, assuring that the PDP will work hard to reclaim power in 2023 and rescue Nigeria.
