Recovery of Govt Assets: LP tasks Gov Mutfwang to include non-state actors as committee members 

The Plateau State Chapter of the Labour Party (LP), has tasked the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang to include non-State actors, other political parties, as committee members set up to recover government properties.

The LP also queried the mandate given to the just inaugurated committee to recover only from 2015-2023, saying that the mandate should start from 1999 to date.

Plateau State Chairman of the Party, Comrade Solomon Ndam, who spoke in a statement sent to our correspondent on Monday argued that expanding the scope of the committee mandate, will further engender trust amongst citizens.

According to him: “We recommend that the committee’s membership be non-partisan and expanded to include representatives from opposition parties, Labour Union, Civil Society Organizations and the Nigerian Bar Association.

“This inclusive approach will help mitigate perceptions of political bias and prevent any semblance of a witch-hunt against specific individuals.

“In 2023, a media report indicated that the Plateau State Government procured two hundred trucks of fertilizer to support local farmers and enhance agricultural production for food security. Regrettably, the Labour Party has not received any information regarding the current status of these fertilizers.

“In light of this, we respectfully urge you, as a leader committed to integrity and transparency, to direct the committee to incorporate an assessment of the fertilizer distribution into its mandate.

“This should include an investigation into the beneficiaries and the publication of their names to ensure accountability”, Ndam said.

The LP Chairman said his party holds the view that public funds necessitate public accountability, as they are derived from taxpayers’ contributions, adding that if the committee is to focus on the recovery of government properties, its mandate should extend from 1999 to date, considering that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also been in stewardship of these assets from 1999.

Ndam added: “It is our collective responsibility to uphold principles of justice and integrity in governance, fostering peace, unity, and development for the benefit of our constituents”.
