Reps. member moves motion on funding innovation, technology research
A member of the House of Representatives, Babajimi Benson, has moved a motion on the “Need to Increase Funding for Innovation and Technology Research in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.”
The motion, according to Babajimi Benson, identifies various technological innovations by tertiary institutions as well as talented Nigerians, especially in the areas of automotive engineering, ICT and environmental preservation.
It further highlights the influx of Venture Capital Funding of $1.37 billion which is the highest in Africa for Nigerian Start-ups, mainly in technological innovations and research.
The motion therefore urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to increase funding to tertiary institutions on innovation and technology, as a way of fully harnessing the FDI influx and enhancing technological transformation for sustainable development.
The motion was overwhelmingly supported by members of the House and was referred to the Committees on Tertiary Education and Services, Land Transport, Environment and Science and Technology for further actions.
