Rural development: LG Boss seeks partnership
Mr Erastus Awortu, Chairman, Andoni Local Government Area in Rivers, has sued for partnership from government and donor agencies towards actualisation of economic and rural development at the grassroots.
Awortu, made this known during a courtesy call on the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA) on Friday in Port Harcourt.
He noted that the NDBDA is a strategic federal government agency saddled with the development mandates for rural communities in the Niger Delta region.
Awortu therefore called for the agency’s support in the actualisation of his administration’s development goals in communities across Andoni area council.
“Part of our campaign promise was to tackle the challenge of infrastructure deficit in Andoni and the council cannot achieve this alone, hence, the need for support from public spirited agencies and donors.
“Water supply, road infrastructure, agriculture, rural electrification and human capital development are some of the possible areas that could provide succour for our local communities when addressed.
“Though our administration is quite new, just over a month old, we envisage possible benefits in interagency collaboration and look forward to partnering with your agency in addressing infrastructure deficit in the area council,” he said.
The Council boss also expressed readiness to initiate strategic partnership with a view to improving the quality of life and economic wellbeing of rural dwellers.
Responding, Mark Derefaka, NDBDA Managing Director, assured the Andoni Council Chairman of the agency’s willingness to partner in areas that would attract development to the area council and the State in general.
He noted that the agency’s mandate was to compliment development efforts in the Niger Delta region, while assuring on commitment to support the council actualise its pursuit for social amenities in rural communities.
