Shekarau formally announces defection from NNPP to PDP in Senate
The former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, senator representing Kano Central in the National Assembly, at senate plenary on Wednesday formally declared his decamping from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The resignation letter of Shekarau was read on the floor of the senate on Wednesday by the President of Senate, Ahmad Lawan, who announced his official defection of the Kano senator.
Shekarau explained in the letter that he defected with thousands of his supporters in Kano from NNPP to PDP to advance their political ambitions in a party that accommodates them.
PDP senators, led by the Senate Minority Leader, Philip Aduda, and the Minority Whip, Chukwuka Utazi, felicitated with Shekarau after his official defecting from NNPP.
Shekarau dumped the NNPP for the PDP on August 29.
