Tanker explosion kills 14 in Gombe
The fuel tanker explosion in Gombe State on Saturday has killed 14
persons, while two other victims died from severe injuries that defied
medical intervention. The accident was said to have occurred along the
bypass road in Gombe town. The point is noted for recurring vehicular
crashes.
Relatives of some the victims were said to be overwhelmed with tears
and anguish, some were said to be trying to conceal their grief in the
spirit of continuing with the struggle for the life of the living.
Some of the injured were transferred from the state specialist
hospital to the federal teaching hospital in Gombe for proper medical
attention.
Reports show that vehicular crashes occur frequently at that point in
Gombe town, especially, those involving articulated trucks partly due
to the steep gradient of the roads,
as the town is on a valley.
The recurring accidents and the attendant deaths have given rise to
demands for the intervention of the government to review the design of
the road to prevent further occurrence and deaths.
