Theodore Orji open voting as Senate begins election of presiding officers

The Senate of the Nigerian National Assembly has commenced the election of the President of the Senate as the Ninth National Assembly resumes sitting on Tuesday.

Two candidates are standing election for the senate president. The voting process is supervised by the Clerk of the National Assembly,Mohammed Sani-Omolori.

After the election of the senate president, the senate will proceed to elect the deputy senate president. Thereafter, the clerk moves to the House of Representatives to elect the Speaker and deputy speaker of the House.

Adams Oshiomhole and other All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders are in the National Assembly chambers to monitor the election of the presiding officers.

The voting is currently going on.
