Thugs take over Akwa Ibom Assembly
Political thugs on Monday invaded Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and were reported to have restricted members of the state legislature from entering the premises of the state legislature.
National Daily gathered that the lawlessness of the political thugs was not unconnected with the order of a Federal High Court which declared vacant the seat of Idongesit Ituen, member representing Itu constituency. Ituen sued the State Legislature in his bid to restrain the Speaker of the House from declaring his seat vacant after he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party) PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) but lost the case which he initiated himself.
Ituen had initiated the suit in pre-emptive of the Speaker of the House but lost the suit after the court dismissed him member of the State Assembly after his defection.
National Daily learnt that the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Luke Onofiok, had a fortnight ago barred Ituen from attending plenary and performing other legislative duties in the state until the Appeal Court upturns the judgment of the Federal High Court.
