Unknown gunmen invade university in Cross River; abduct a student
There was tension in Arthur Jarvis University in Cross River State, after gunmen invaded the school and shot sporadically.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 19, as the students were returning from classes within the premises. The university is situated in Akpabuyo Local Government Area, which is about 15 kilometres from Calabar. Students who managed to scamper to safety had multiple injuries.
“The gunmen succeeded in abducting one of them and left another with severe machete cuts. We understand that the kidnapped student was taken into the nearby forest”, a source told reporters.
Another source reports that the kidnapped student has been identified as Josephine Etim Edet, adding that the victim had just written her last paper for the semester before the incident occurred.
