The United States Embassy in Nigeria has announced significant changes to the immigrant visa application process for individuals with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025.

Applicants are now required to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during their visa process to streamline the procedure and reduce delays caused by incomplete documentation.

The new policy, shared via the embassy’s official social media account (formerly Twitter), aims to improve efficiency and ensure applicants are fully prepared for their visa interviews.

The first visit will be an In-Person Document Review with a consular officer at the Lagos Consulate.

During this review, applicants will have the opportunity to verify that all necessary documentation is complete and accurate before their scheduled visa interview.

The embassy explained that this review is crucial to identify any missing documents, allowing applicants to retrieve them in advance and avoid potential delays during the visa application process.

The document review is designed to ensure that applicants are well-prepared for the upcoming interview, significantly reducing the chances of postponing the visa interview due to incomplete or incorrect paperwork.

The second visit will involve the actual visa interview with a consular officer.

The National Visa Center (NVC) will coordinate and schedule the interview date for applicants.

If an applicant fails to complete the In-Person Document Review before the visa interview, the embassy stated that the individual will be required to reschedule their appointment, further delaying the visa process.

The two-visit process is expected to streamline the application, ensuring applicants have all their documents in order, which will ultimately result in quicker processing times for those seeking immigrant visas.

In conclusion, the embassy reiterated that the new process, while introducing an additional step for applicants, is meant to reduce inefficiencies and ensure that applicants are well-prepared for their visa interviews.

It also aims to provide a more organized and smooth experience for applicants seeking to travel to the United States.
