Wike, PDP G5, penetrate north to unsettle Atiku
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his allies that constitute the five PDP Governors, known as G5, are beginning to penetrate the north to unsettle the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former vice president Atiku Abubakar, in their agitation for the resignation of the PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
Wike led three governors of the PDP G5 to hold in a closed-door meeting with Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State in Bauchi after the Atiku team had met with the Bauchi governor.
The other three governors Wike led to the meeting with Bala Mohammed include Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was absent at the meeting.
Wike, however, explained that they were in Bauchi on a solidarity visit to Governor Mohammed, to also deliberate on ways they could intervene and assist him on some challenges rising up against the Bauchi governor’s second re-election.
Governor Mohammed acknowledged their kind gesture, also recognized their agitations in the party.
The PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, and others, had visited Governor Bala Mohammed on Tuesday where they had closed door meeting.
Atiku has been reluctant in resolving the G5 conflict which is slowing down the party’s presidential campaign and giving leverage to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.
