Woman, one other arrested over incident involving 5-year-old stepdaughter
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has apprehended a woman, Ihsanatu Shaaibu, and another individual whose identity has not been disclosed, for allegedly abusing a five-year-old girl, Fa’iza Bala, who is her stepdaughter. The abuse reportedly resulted in severe injuries to the child.
The arrests were carried out on Thursday, January 9, 2025, following the circulation of a disturbing video on social media that sparked widespread outrage. The video captured the incident and led to a swift investigation by law enforcement authorities.
According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, via his verified social media handles, both suspects are currently in police custody. Adejobi assured the public that the suspects would face prosecution upon the completion of ongoing investigations.

The statement reads: “This is in connection to the viral video where a woman, Ihsanatu Shaaibu, was seen physically abusing and inflicting grievous injuries on her five-year-old stepdaughter, Fa’iza Bala. The suspects were arrested today, Thursday, January 9, 2025, and will be prosecuted as soon as investigations are finalized. We will continue to provide updates on the matter.”
The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and emphasized their zero-tolerance policy towards acts of child abuse and violence.
