Xabi Alonso targets Arda Guler as Chelsea prepare €100m transfer bid
Chelsea are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing highly rated Turkish midfielder Arda Guler from Real Madrid, with reports suggesting incoming manager Xabi Alonso is keen on reuniting with one of his former players during the summer transfer window.
According to reports, Alonso, who is expected to take charge of Chelsea on July 1 under a four-year contract, is already looking at potential additions to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season. Among the names said to be on his radar is Real Madrid’s young star Arda Guler, a player with whom he reportedly developed a close working relationship.
Guler enjoyed an impressive campaign and became an increasingly important figure in Alonso’s setup during their time together. The Turkish international featured in 25 matches this season, a significant increase compared to the 24 appearances he made across the previous two seasons combined.
The strong bond between the pair was highlighted in a recent interview with Turkish broadcaster TRT Spor, where Guler spoke warmly about Alonso’s influence on his development.

“The truth is that we had a brilliant relationship. I felt as though he’d handed me the keys,” Guler said.
“It was exactly what I was looking for, honestly. Now he’s signed for Chelsea. I hope everything goes well for him. Of course, we’re still messaging each other.”
The comments have further fueled speculation that Chelsea could make a move for the midfielder as Alonso begins shaping his squad for the future.
However, any potential transfer is expected to be far from straightforward. Guler remains under contract with Real Madrid until 2029 and is regarded as one of the club’s most valuable young assets.
While the midfielder is believed to be valued at around €90 million, reports suggest Chelsea would likely need to offer more than €100 million to convince the Spanish giants to part with the player.
With the summer transfer window approaching, attention will now turn to whether Chelsea are prepared to make a major financial commitment to secure one of Europe’s most promising young talents and provide Alonso with a familiar face at Stamford Bridge.
