Two men, Michael Abolarinwa, 35, and Abiodun Ajayi, 25,  on Thursday, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, charged with negligence and stealing respectively.

The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, however, pleaded not guilty to the separate charge of negligence and stealing preferred against each of them.

The prosecutor, Insp Olumide Bamigbade, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Nov.6 at about 9.00p.m., at Itamo Street, Odo-Ado in Ado-Ekiti.

Bamigbade alleged that Michael Abolarinwa negligently parked his Haojue motorcycle at the mechanic’s workshop of one Ajayi without his consent and the motorcycle’s rear tyrre was subsequently stolen.

The prosecutor said that Ajayi stole the tyre of the Haojue motorcycle, valued at N12,000, that was  parked at his mechanic shop, property of Abolarinwa.

According to him, the offences committed contravened sections 261(a) and 302 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

Counsel to the defendants, Mr Femi Olarewaju, urged the court to grant his clients bail and promised that they would not jump bail.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Franca Olaiya, granted each defendant N100,000 bail and  one surety each in like sum.

She adjourned the case till Nov.24 for hearing.
