Benue police beef up security ahead re-run election, deploys 5000 officers

Ahead Benue re-run election, The Benue state Police Command on yesterday said that it has deployed over 5000 officers and men for the Benue South senatorial re-run election between David Mark of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Dan Onjeh of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Commissioner of Police Dibal Yakadi disclosed this in an exclusive chat with selected newsmen at the command’s headquarters in Makurdi, the state capital.
Yakadi added that apart from the police, other sister agencies like the Military, State Security Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigeria Immigration Services are deploying about 1000 personnel to synergize with his command.

He said this Saturday’s election is not a do or die affair and appealed to politicians to caution their supporters against breaching the law.
The CP also disclosed that six people who were responsible for inciting mayhem in the area were arrested and will be charged to court as soon as preliminary investigation is carried out.
He charged the people of the area to cooperate with security agents before, during and after the election.
