Gunmen kill two soldiers, wound others
The Nigerian Army has explained that the killing of an Army Major and soldiers in Port Harcourt on Thursday was carried out by pirates who attacked troops of 2 brigade but not politically motivated.
The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Captain Eli Lazarus said in Port Harcourt that about 1 am, Thursday, troops on patrol in Abonemma, Akukutoru Local Government Area of Rivers state had a fierce encounter with a group of unknown gunmen suspected to be sea pirates.

He said during the encounter, an officer and a soldier lost their lives. He added that the force was doing everything possible to track the criminals as “we are in pursuit of the criminals and we will surely get them,” Captain Lazarus explained.
The killing of the Army Major and soldiers is coming few hours to the re-run elections in the three senatorial zones, 12 federal constituencies and 23 state assembly seats.
He called on all law abiding citizens to remain calm and go about their lawful activities noting that the army would continue to make necessary sacrifices to ensure sustainable peace and security of lives and property of everyone in the state.
