Gov. Buni mourns four persons drown by flood
Gov. Mai Mala-Buni of Yobe, has commiserated with the families of four persons drown by flood in different parts of the state.
The governor’s condolence message was contained in a statement by his Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, on Monday in Damaturu.
Mala-Buni described the deaths as saddening and unfortunate, adding that the flood triggered by days of torrential rains had destroyed many houses and submerged farmlands.
He, therefore, directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to intensify search for two other persons reportedly missing as a result of the flood.
The governor also directed the agencies to provide medical support to those who sustain various degree of injuries in the disaster.
“The ministry and SEMA should also provide the affected communities with their immediate needs to cushion their hardships,” he said.
The National Daily reports that the governor had earlier directed the evacuation of downstream communities to higher grounds as preventive measure against flooding.
While pledging to provide all the necessary support to fasttrack the relocation and resettlement process, Mala-Buni urged the affected communities to cooperate with the agencies to facilitate smooth conduct of the exercise.
