How 5-second madness gave away escaped inmate
Habits die hard.
It is the reason Chinedu Ogu escaped during a jailbreak in October 2020, and still could not live on the straight and narrow—until he ran afoul of another law.
Officials of the Public Works Volunteers (PUWOV) in collaboration with other security agencies nabbed him outside Benin Friday.
He just broke traffic laws while riding a commercial motorcycle.
He committed murder earlier on.
For breaking the traffic law, Ogu became the target of the security agents within the moment. That brought out the beast in him.
He first peeled off his clothes, and went buck-naked. Then he stooped and shat a handful he grabbed and flung at the security agents.
But his madness merely amused the police men, public work officials and others circling him. Nothing hinted them their man is a jailbird facing murder trial.
Confirming the arrest, the PUWOV coordinator, Mukhtar Yusuf-Osagie, said,“Luckily, PUWOV officials still apprehended him and in the process.”
It was then they discovered that he is a fugitive.
“The official later handed him over to Oba Market Police Division where further investigations were carried out in conjunction with the Nigeria Correctional Service which revealed his name to be one Chinedu Ogu, a fugitive, charged for murder case but escaped during the #EndSARS protests in October 19, 2020,” he said.
Ogu has been dumped back into his habitat—the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sapele Road.
