In most sizzling emotional trade at Aso Rock, Buhari tells Igbo oldest parliamentarian judiciary remains Kanu’s best bet
The Highly Respected Igbo Greats, an Igbo group, visited President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Rock Friday for a heart-to-heart talk on a united Nigeria and IPOB pestilence.
Buhari said the demand the Igbo leaders led by a first republic lawmaker and ex-aviation minister, Mbazuike Amaechi, made on the APC government is heavy.
Amaechi, 93, and his group have demanded an unconditional release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
And Buhari said the implication of their request is very serious.
Recollecting the circumstances that led to Kanu’s re-arrest and trial resumption, Buhari said the best option is to let the secessionist leader face the law.
“Let him make his case in court, instead of giving very negative impressions of the country from the outside. I feel it’s even a favour to give him that opportunity,” he said.
“In the last six years, since I became President, nobody would say I have confronted or interfered in the work of the Judiciary,” he added as he celebrated Amaechi’s clear-headedness at that age.
“But the demand you made is heavy. I will consider it.”
