Edo donates N30m to rebuild razed market
From EBEN KINGSLEY, Benin
GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has said that the state government will contribute the sum of N30 million to rebuild the Dumez market which was razed by fire, a week ago.
Speaking during a visit to the razed market, the governor said in spite of the economic hardship across the country, government must do all within its means to bring smiles to the face of the people.
He said: “we must look beyond our pocket and see how we can raise money to support you. For me, when a woman has no place to trade, her mind cannot be at peace. There cannot be a government without the people and Edo State
Government will contribute N30 million to rebuild this market.”
He assured market women in the state that they have nothing to fear about the Land Use Charge Law, saying “the market women will not pay land use charge because our task is to collect tax from those that have to provide for the poor.”
Leader of the market women, Mrs. Blacky Omoregie who responded on behalf of others assured the Governor that they were solidly behind him.
She took a swipe at a PDP leader in the state who paid some women to protest against the Governor, saying “one person cannot form the multitude.
We are the market women, we are the ones who know what you are doing. We will not betray you, we are solidly behind you. Just keep on with your good work.”
