The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Friday, urged motorists and travelers to set out at dawn when embarking on journeys this Easter period.

The Sector Commander of FRSC, Enugu State Command, Mr Joseph Toby, gave the advise while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu.

Toby spoke on the sidelines of the negative import of anxiety on the road by motorists and travelers this festive season.

He said that anxiety to cover up for lost time would lead motorists to over speeding and driving recklessly.

According to him, poor journey planning and moving late for journeys (especially long distance journeys) are what usually leads most drivers to over speed and road crashes.

“It is necessary that people should plan their journeys ahead of time and leave on time to their destinations.

“Leaving on time will allow you to have control of the journey and if there is any unforeseen development, you can make alternative arrangements and still arrive on time,” he said.

The commander urged motorists and travelers to avoid night journeys as much as possible due to poor visibility during the night hours.

Toby also urged motorists to fix all mechanical faults in their vehicles before embarking on journeys, especially for long distance journeys.

“A fault not attended to will likely lead to the breakdown of the vehicle during journeys, especially for a long-distant journeys.

“The breakdown of the faulty vehicle might lead to road obstructions and traffic grid lock,” he said.

Toby, however, wished Nigerians a happy and crash-free Easter celebration.

“FRSC is already on hand to provide rescue and medical emergency services in all major road corridors in Enugu State,” he said.

NAN recalls that the FRSC had already deployed 757 personnel for the Special Easter Patrol Operation for seven days in Enugu State.
