Eldee the don reacts to Tinubu’s “emilokan”
Nigerian rap artiste, Lanre Dabiri popularly known as Eldee the Don has described the Yoruba phrase “Emilokan” meaning “it’s my turn” mouthed by former Lagos Governor and All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a turn off.
Recall that Tinubu first used the phrase while addressing delegates in Abeokuta, Ogun State prior to the APC presidential primary.
He had said during his outburst that he deserves to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari after helping the president win the 2015 presidential election. He said “this time, it’s Yoruba turn and in Yoruba land, it’s my turn.”
His emilokan comments which has been attracting criticisms on various social media platforms was also criticised by Eldee the Don.
The rap artiste who viewed the phrase as inappropriate in a democratic setting wrote on his Twitter handle.
“The “emilokan” concept is such a turn-off for me personally. Is this some sort of monarchy?”
Tinubu was also reported to have repeated the phrase during a meeting with Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, last Friday.
He restated, “yes I said in my language in the appropriate place where MKO Abiola is a descendant, a chief, a son of the soil.. emilokan. Any Yoruba man or any person who understands Yoruba will know the meaning of emilokan. It’s my turn.”
