Erdogan turns against Russia, declares Turkey’s support for Ukraine
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey has turned against Russia over the crisis in Ukraine. Erdogan, accordingly, declared Turkey’s support for Ukraine, issuing warning of the danger of “another Chernobyl” disaster erupting at a nuclear power plant held by Russian forces.
President Erdogan at a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine in Lviv, two weeks before the Sochi talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, insisted that Turkey as a NATO member, is firmly on the side of Ukraine side in the conflict and would continue its diplomatic efforts to end the military action in Ukraine.
Erdogan stated, “While continuing our efforts to find a solution, we remain on the side of our Ukraine friends.
“We are worried. We do not want another Chernobyl.
“We discussed the exchange of prisoners of war and our initiatives in this regard.
“We will continue to talk about that with Mr. Putin.”
