SP Ben Hundeyin reacts to video of a woman assaulting an armed police officer in Lagos
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin took to his verified Twitter handle to react to a trending video of a woman assaulting an armed police officer on duty.
The footage, which was shared by The Punch on Twitter, shows a young lady holding on to the uniform of a police officer while passers-by tried to appease her. Judging from her comments in the video, the furious woman was accusing the officer of threatening to shoot at her over a disagreement.
Quite interestingly, the officer remained calm and silent throughout the incident which was said to have taken place in the Festac Town axis in Lagos. It was gathered that she was eventually arrested and charged with assault. As expected, the video has generated a lot of reactions on social media, with some persons claiming that the woman may have been infuriated by something the officer said or did.
In response to comments on the viral footage, SP Ben Hundeyin noted that even though people are trying to justify the assault on an officer on duty, the matter will be decided by the court and not the Nigeria Police Force.
Recall that just a few weeks ago, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba-Alkali declared that the Force will no longer tolerate assaults carried out against officers while performing their lawful duties, vowing that perpetrators will be arrested and prosecuted.
