Sit-tight 80-year-old president, after 43 years on throne, seeks sixth term of seven years
Sit-tight President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, after 43 years of reign in Equatorial Guinea, is seeking power renewal for a sixth term in November at the age of 80 years. Nguema Mbasogo aspiring for a life president, has turned Equatorial Guinea into a monarchical dynasty, while he is the president, he made his son, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, vice president.
National Daily gathered that Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, known as “Teodorin”, announced the plan for tenure renewal of his on Friday.
Nguema Obiang Mangue, in a tweet, announced: “Because of his charisma, his leadership, and his political experience”, the ruling party unanimously chose Obiang as its candidate for the November 20 poll.”
It would appear that Equatorial Guinea is operating one-party state democracy; no other candidate has identified interest for the November poll, perhaps, everyone is afraid of the emperor on throne.
President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo ascended to the throne through a coup in 1979, killing his feared, ruthless uncle and predecessor, Francisco Macias Nguema.
Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo is seeking power renewal for another seven years.
