NGOs donate food items to flood victims in Bayelsa

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Actionaid Nigeria, in collaboration with Mac Jim Foundation, has donated food and materials to flood victims in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

The Logistics Advisor of Actionaid Nigeria,   Goodluck Omoh, leading the distribution of the materials in Otuoke on Friday, said that it was part of the foundation’s effort to support flood victims in the Niger Delta.

The items distributed included 10kg of rice, Indomie noodles, wrapper, detergents, salt, Maggi, bathing soup, vegetable oil, among others.

Omoh expressed solidarity with the flood victims for their losses, assuring them of the Foundation’s commitment to their welfare.

He said Actionaid deem it fit to step in as 90 per cent of Bayelsa was submerged with flood water.

“In Otuoke here so many places are flooded even the former President house is also, if you go around the town you will see things for yourself.

“Actionaid has commission five million Naira to support 140 household here in Bayelsa.

“Here in Otuoke we have 30 beneficiaries, while in Yenagoa Local Government Area, we have 80 beneficiaries, in Sagbama LGA, we have 40 beneficiaries.

“All the items are shared accordingly to the beneficiaries everybody is happy for what they got from our NGO,” he said.

The Community Development Committee Chairman, Emmanuel Egede, commended the foundation for coming to the aid of Otuoke community.

He called on relevant government agencies and political leaders to address the ravaging floods as a matter of urgent national importance.
