Jonathan leads ECOWAS team to monitor presidential run-off polls in Liberia, visits polling units
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, leading the West African Elders Forum (WAEF), on Tuesday, monitored the presidential run-off polls in Liberia, visiting various polling units in Monrovia. The country conducts run-off presidential election between President George Weah and former Vice President Joseph Boakai.

Former President Jonathan enjoined the candidates, leaders of the two parties – the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) and the Unity Party (UP) – to consider the imperatives of peace and unity of the country in ensuring the successful completion of the process.

“I visited some Polling Places in Monrovia with members of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) as voting begins at today’s presidential run-off election.

“We urge the candidates of the two parties and their supporters in this run-off polls, the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) and the Unity Party (UP), to prioritise the peace and unity of the country and work for the successful completion of the election.”

Former President Goodluck Jonathan at a polling unit in Liberia during the presidential run-off polls
Voting in the run-off election commenced in the early hours of Tuesday between President George Weah and former Vice President Joseph Boakai, both of whom had below the 50% required for an outright victory in the first round of voting.
President Weah had 43.83% of the votes, and Boakai had 43.44% of the votes, giving rise to second round of voting.
In the first round of voting, 6% votes were invalidated.
