Shehu Sani alleges plot to overthrow Tinubu amid protests in northern states
Former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has alleged that the display of Russian flags by protesters in Kano, Zamfara, and other northern states is part of a plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government.
Concerns have been raised over the presence of foreign flags at protests, with some EndBadGovernance demonstrators seen in video clips flying the Russian flag and calling for military rule in Nigeria.
Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Department of State Services (DSS), have arrested several individuals involved in these protests.

Speaking on Channels Television on Tuesday, Sani claimed that the protests were not solely about dissatisfaction with government policies but were orchestrated to create chaos and potentially lead to a government overthrow.
He stated, “A day before the last protest, money was shared to the youths, and Russian flags were also distributed. This indicates that the protest’s intent goes beyond critiquing government policies.
“There was an attempt to create an atmosphere conducive to overthrowing the government. When you see such actions, it’s clear that someone is scripting a scenario for anarchy, lawlessness, and disorder. It’s crucial for people like us to speak out.”
