Federal Government provides relief to fire victims in Akwa Ibom
The Federal Government has distributed relief materials to victims of a fire outbreak in Mbo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. The relief items included food, blankets, and other essential supplies.
The Federal Government has distributed relief materials to victims of a fire outbreak that occurred on January 28th in three communities in Mbo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
Mrs. Zubaida Umar, the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), described the fire incident as “very unfortunate” and emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to providing succor to those affected.
The fire, which engulfed Akwa Obio Effiat, Esuk Ewang, and Ebughu communities, destroyed homes and livelihoods.
NEMA’s Head of Operations in Akwa Ibom, Mrs. Mmandu Aisueni, stated that the agency was dedicated to supporting people in distress.
She explained that the relief materials were intended to provide immediate assistance to the affected families.
Mrs. Zubaida Umar highlighted NEMA’s commitment to disaster management, including emergency response and capacity building for prevention and mitigation.

She emphasized that the agency would assess the long-term needs of the affected communities.
The Akwa Ibom Deputy Governor, Sen. Akon Eyakenyi, commended the Federal Government for the intervention and urged residents to be cautious and vigilant to prevent future fire outbreaks.
Beneficiaries of the relief materials expressed gratitude for the support, which provided much-needed relief in the face of economic hardship.
Items distributed to the victims included food items, blankets, mosquito nets, and other essential supplies.
