Over 500 Nigerians register for evacuation from Lebanon amid escalating conflict
The Federal Government had initiated evacuation procedures due to the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The ministry is collaborating with relevant agencies, including the Presidency, National Emergency Management Agency, and Nigerian Immigration Service, to coordinate the evacuation exercise.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported that over 500 Nigerian citizens have registered with the Nigerian mission in Lebanon for evacuation back to Nigeria.
This announcement was made by Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, the ministry’s spokesperson, during a briefing in Abuja on Sunday.
Approximately 2,000 Nigerians reside in Lebanon, but many have not expressed a desire to return despite ongoing encouragement from the mission.
The Federal Government has initiated evacuation procedures in response to the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
Abu-Obe emphasized that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is prioritizing the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens, stating that emergency protocols have been activated to facilitate their swift and secure evacuation.
The ministry is working in coordination with relevant agencies, including the Presidency, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and Nigerian Immigration Service, to manage the evacuation efforts.

Additionally, the Nigerian Embassy in Beirut has issued advisories urging citizens to remain indoors and adhere to instructions from local authorities.
Abu-Obe also called on unregistered citizens to reach out to the embassy via email ([email protected]) and warned against resisting evacuation amid the escalating conflict.
He commended the understanding of the Nigerian community in Lebanon and assured that the government will continue to monitor the situation closely.
