Rivers Police bursts job racket, rescues victims

The Rivers State Police Command has successfully dismantled a job scam syndicate that targeted unsuspecting job seekers.

The syndicate, which advertised non-existent employment opportunities, was apprehended following a raid on its hideout.

According to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, the operation was carried out in response to a distress call from concerned residents.

Police officers stormed a compound in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area, and arrested the syndicate’s leader, Chukwudi Okoli.

During the raid, sixteen victims were rescued from the gang’s captivity.

The victims, who had paid between N650,000 and N850,000 to the fraudulent company, Ojoseansel International Global Limited, were promised lucrative jobs in the oil and gas industry with high salaries.

The syndicate operated by cold-calling potential victims and enticing them with fake job offers.

After luring the victims to Port Harcourt for bogus interviews, the gang would detain them and demand substantial sums of money.

The victims were subjected to rigorous training sessions, where they were taught how to recruit their own victims for the scam.

Items recovered from the syndicate’s hideout included electronic devices, office equipment, and other valuables.

The police have launched a full-scale investigation into the matter and are working to apprehend any remaining members of the gang.
