Workers in Osun State on Monday expressed their unwavering support for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s second term bid in 2026, following his approval of a new minimum wage of N75,554 for state workers.
The workers, visibly elated by the governor’s gesture, gathered in large numbers at the Governor’s Office in the State Secretariat, Abere, to show their appreciation.
They were led by the chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), who thanked the governor for fulfilling his campaign promise.
In a speech addressing Governor Adeleke, NLC Chairman Christopher Arapasopo, flanked by Chief of Staff Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, described the wage increase as “unprecedented in the history of Osun.”
Arapasopo stated that the governor had proven his commitment to the welfare of workers, adding that they would show their appreciation by supporting his re-election bid in 2026.
“Your Excellency, you have proven to be the true son of the soil. You have proven that you are truly your father’s son. We are here to say thank you.
We asked for the minimum wage and you obliged us, not with the standard N70,000, but N75,554.28 for the least worker in the state,” Arapasopo said. “You also approved N25,000 for the senior citizens (the pensioners).
We are here to thank you for all these palliative materials released to all categories of workers, including pensioners.”
He further emphasized that the governor had fulfilled his promise to ensure that workers do not suffer under his leadership, and confirmed that in 2026, “there will be no vacancy in Osun,” with workers fully supporting his re-election.
Arapasopo also stated that in the 2025 May Day celebration, they would officially declare their backing for Adeleke’s second term.

TUC Chairman Mr. Bimbo Fasasi echoed Arapasopo’s sentiments, applauding the governor for the wage increase and affirming that Osun workers were solidly behind him.
Governor Adeleke, visibly pleased with the workers’ show of support, expressed gratitude for their appreciation. He reiterated that his administration’s primary goal was to ensure the well-being of workers in the state.
“During the campaign, I said our number one priority is to make sure our workers are happy,” the governor remarked. “I have the fear of God, and I will keep repeating that any leader without the fear of God is not supposed to be a leader. It is a sin for someone to toil, work, and not get paid.”
The governor also acknowledged the challenges posed by limited state revenue, but assured the workers that his administration would continue to prioritize their welfare. “I wish our federal allocation was like that of Lagos or Akwa Ibom, I would have done more for you, but with the little we are earning, I will make sure that you are happy,” Adeleke said.
He also affirmed that his government was working towards industrializing the state, with plans to improve workers’ welfare and salary as the state’s revenue increases.
