Obanikoro praises Tinubu over Third Mainland Bridge rehabilitation

Former Minister of State for Defence and former Senator, Musiliu Obanikoro, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the rehabilitation of the Third Mainland Bridge, describing the project as a world-class infrastructure intervention that helped preserve one of Lagos’ most critical transport assets.

Obanikoro made the remarks during an interview on MIC ON PODCAST, which aired on Sunday, July 19, 2026, where he highlighted the Federal Government’s investments in infrastructure under the Tinubu administration.

According to the former minister, the rehabilitation of the Third Mainland Bridge ranks among the administration’s most significant achievements, noting that the intervention came at a critical period when the bridge required urgent attention.

He argued that without the Federal Government’s timely action, some of Lagos’ vital infrastructure could have deteriorated further, praising the quality of work carried out on the bridge.

“If not for the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, probably most of our infrastructure in Lagos would have collapsed. Look at the Third Mainland Bridge. The rehabilitation that he has done on it is world-class. You cannot deny that. It is world-class. We have never seen that done before in this country,” Obanikoro said.

The former minister maintained that the rehabilitation meets international standards and deserves recognition irrespective of political affiliations, stressing that the project reflects the administration’s commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure.

He further stated that the bridge rehabilitation demonstrates the Federal Government’s resolve to improve transportation, enhance road safety and preserve key national assets that support economic activities in Lagos and across the country.

The Third Mainland Bridge remains one of Nigeria’s busiest and most strategic road networks, linking Lagos Island with the mainland and serving millions of commuters every year.

Its rehabilitation forms part of the Federal Government’s broader programme to modernise critical infrastructure, improve mobility and extend the lifespan of major transportation facilities nationwide.
