The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered an immediate and thorough crackdown on those responsible for the deadly explosion at Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters, which claimed the lives of two officers.

The attack, attributed to suspected Boko Haram terrorists, occurred on January 9, 2025, at approximately 12:10 a.m.

The explosion resulted in the deaths of Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat, according to a statement issued by the Borno State Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso.

In a statement on Friday by Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP strongly condemned the attack, emphasizing that those responsible for the deaths of police officers would face justice. “No individual or group involved in killing police officers will go unpunished,” the statement read.

The IGP expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased officers, pledging that their sacrifices in the line of duty would not be in vain. He assured the bereaved families of the prompt payment of benefits and entitlements to support them during this difficult time.

The IGP has directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in Zone 15, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to deploy all necessary resources to apprehend the attackers. This includes collaboration with other security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in protecting lives and property. This attack will not deter our officers from fulfilling their responsibilities,” Egbetokun stated.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with the Force working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding the attack. The IGP has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to holding all security disruptors accountable and maintaining peace across the nation.

This attack comes amid ongoing efforts by security forces to counter Boko Haram activities in the region. The tragic incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by officers in the line of duty as they strive to protect communities from insurgent threats.
