The Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic death of a 24-year-old woman, allegedly beaten to death by her 50-year-old husband during a domestic dispute over Ramadan meal preparations.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakili, the incident occurred on March 1, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m. in the Fadamam Mada area, near Government Girls College, Bauchi.

The suspect, identified as Alhaji Nuru Isah, a businessman operating at the Bauchi Central Market, reportedly attacked his second wife, Wasila Abdullahi, following an argument over food ingredients and fruits intended for breaking their Ramadan fast.

What began as a disagreement escalated into a violent altercation, during which Isah allegedly struck Wasila multiple times with a cane. The assault resulted in her collapsing and losing consciousness inside their home.

Eyewitnesses and family members rushed Wasila to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Teaching Hospital, but medical personnel declared her dead upon arrival.

In the wake of the incident, law enforcement officers swiftly apprehended Isah. Authorities have also recovered the cane used in the attack as part of their ongoing investigation.

“The victim’s body has been deposited in the mortuary pending an autopsy,” CSP Wakili stated.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, has assured the public that justice will be served, stressing that law enforcement will not tolerate acts of domestic violence.

“He also used the opportunity to emphasize the dangers of domestic violence, calling on the community to uphold respect, empathy, and understanding in family life,” the police statement read.

The police command has urged Bauchi residents to promptly report cases of domestic abuse, emphasizing that violence within the home is a criminal offense with severe legal consequences.

The tragic incident has sparked discussions on domestic violence and gender-based abuse, with activists and community leaders calling for increased awareness and stronger legal action against perpetrators.

The case remains under investigation, and further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
