Uproar as Davido, Cubana Chief Priest visit Tinubu, pledge support for 2027 (Video)
There has been uproar as Nigerian music icon Davido, nightlife mogul, Cubana Chief Priest, and talent manager, Ubi Franklin, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where they pledged support for the president in 2027 — the high-profile meeting has been generating public interest and criticism amid Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and economic hardship.
During the visit, Davido introduced his entourage to the President, noting their political alignment. “They are both your members, sir, they are APC,” he said, prompting a chuckle from President Tinubu. Ubi Franklin also reaffirmed his commitment to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), recounting his efforts during the 2023 presidential campaign. “I went to 15 states for your campaign, sir,” he said, to which the President responded, “Very good. We succeeded and made it to the presidency.”
Cubana Chief Priest added, “We will succeed again in 2027,” reflecting confidence in Tinubu’s leadership.
While the details of their discussions were not made public, the visit — which included stopovers with Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas — has sparked reactions on social media. Many Nigerians have questioned the timing, given the pressing economic challenges gripping the country.
The meeting came at a time when the nation is grappling with surging inflation, with food prices at historic highs and the naira struggling in the foreign exchange market. Simultaneously, the country is witnessing a disturbing spike in insecurity, including abductions, armed attacks, and communal violence across several regions.
Critics argue that high-level engagements with celebrities should not distract from urgent national issues. “We’re not against Davido seeing the president,” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter). “But maybe also see the people in IDP camps or the markets where families can barely feed.”
Supporters, however, view the visit as a bridge between the government and the influential entertainment industry, which could be harnessed for youth engagement and national unity efforts.
As Nigeria continues to confront serious social and economic hurdles, citizens are watching closely — not just for symbolism, but for meaningful actions that address the country’s deepening crises.
