The embattled National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, is having the last laugh in the crisis rocking the party as he was reintegrated into the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) as National Secretary on Wednesday; while the Peoples Democratic Party also cancelled the rescheduled NEC meeting for June 30. The party will now hold an expanded Caucus meeting in place of the NEC meeting.
PDP leaders held a consultative closed-door meeting at the INEC Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, to clarify INEC’s rejection of the party’s notification for its 100th NEC meeting, citing procedural issues and a leadership dispute over the national secretary.
The PDP acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, led the PDP to the meeting, participated by former President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, the governors of Bauchi, Zamfara, Plateau, and Oyo States.
The Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, affirming the reintegration of Anyanwu into the National Working Committee (NWC), declared: “Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been reinstated in the NWC. It was a difficult decision, and it was accepted by many members of the party led by the organs of the party.
“We will have an expanded caucus meeting which will take a decision leading to a proper NEC.
“Anyanwu is resuming as the National Secretary that is why I said it was a critical decision. Like INEC said, they don’t have our notice, so what we will have on June 30th is an expanded Caucus.”
