Kane leads historic scoring race as Europe’s top finishers
European football has entered a new era of prolific goal scoring, with the 2020s producing a fierce battle among some of the world’s most lethal forwards across the continent’s top five leagues.
Following the conclusion of the 2025–26 season, official league statistics from the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1 show a tightly contested race for the most goals scored since January 2020.
At the summit, England captain Harry Kane leads the way with 175 league goals, narrowly edging a group of elite strikers tied just behind him on 174.
The battle for supremacy remains exceptionally close, with Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappé, and Robert Lewandowski all locked on 174 goals.
Kane’s rise to the top has been driven by sustained consistency across clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich, where he has continued his prolific scoring form since his move to Germany in 2023.
Haaland has enjoyed a rapid ascent since joining Borussia Dortmund in 2020 before making a record-breaking switch to Manchester City, where he set new Premier League scoring benchmarks.
Mbappé’s dominance in Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain and subsequent high-profile transfer to Real Madrid has seen him maintain elite scoring levels in Spain, while Lewandowski continues to defy age, maintaining his output across Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona after a record-breaking spell in Germany.
Further down the list, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah sits fifth with 128 league goals, continuing his status as one of the Premier League’s most consistent attacking threats throughout the decade.
Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez follows with 118 goals, anchoring his reputation as one of Serie A’s most reliable scorers in recent years.
The top 10 is completed by a mix of established stars and breakout performers, including Serhou Guirassy, Ciro Immobile, Wissam Ben Yedder, and Ante Budimir, each of whom has maintained strong scoring records across their respective leagues.
The data highlights a transitional period in European football, where established legends and emerging superstars have competed at an extraordinary level of consistency.
With several of the leading scorers still active at the highest level, the race to finish the decade as Europe’s top marksman remains open, setting up an intense conclusion to one of the most competitive scoring eras in modern football.
