Former Deputy Senate President Omo-Agege resigns from APC after loosing governorship ticket
Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) following internal political developments linked to the party’s governorship ticket in Delta State.
In a resignation letter dated May 22, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Omo-Agege announced his immediate departure from the ruling party.
The former senator said his decision came after consultations with political associates and supporters, adding that his political goals and the interests of his constituents could no longer be effectively pursued within the APC.
Although he did not directly mention the governorship primary in the letter, his resignation follows his reported failure to secure the APC governorship ticket in Delta State, a development that intensified speculation about growing divisions within the party’s state structure.
According to Omo-Agege, recent developments within the APC convinced him that he could no longer remain in the party while effectively advancing the interests of Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria.
He also requested that his name be removed from all APC membership records, registers, and communication platforms.
Omo-Agege thanked the APC for the opportunity to serve in the 9th National Assembly as Deputy Senate President and reaffirmed his commitment to public service and development efforts for his constituents.
His resignation is expected to reshape political calculations in Delta State ahead of future elections, especially given his influence within the South-South political landscape.
The former lawmaker was the APC governorship candidate in Delta State during the 2023 general elections and remains one of the party’s most prominent figures in the region.
