A 22-year-old Nigerian man, Martin Ekhosuehi, has been sentenced to nine years in prison after violently robbing two students during a home invasion in Cork, Ireland.

Ekhosuehi, of Willow Gardens, Glanmire, was found guilty of aggravated burglary, assault causing harm, and making threats to kill over the July 2, 2023 attack at a student house on Highfield Avenue, College Road.

The court heard that two masked men forced their way into the house armed with a chef’s knife and screwdriver, demanding money and drugs while ransacking the property. The students were held at knifepoint, punched, and threatened during the nearly hour-long ordeal. One attacker warned, “I will start cutting off fingers, on my mother’s life, if I don’t start finding something soon.”

The intruders eventually stole €30 and the victims’ phones before fleeing.  Detectives later linked Ekhosuehi to the crime through a fingerprint found on a glove left at the scene and CCTV evidence.

Ekhosuehi, who has 14 previous convictions, was given an 11-year sentence with the final two years suspended, leaving nine years in prison after found guilty.
