Why I stopped trying to quit smoking – Omah Lay

Nigerian singer Stanley Omah Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has opened up about his smoking habit, saying he has stopped trying to quit after previous attempts proved unsuccessful.

The ‘Godly’ crooner made the disclosure during a recent interview on the Zach Sang Show, where he discussed his relationship with smoking and his decision to stop putting pressure on himself to give up the habit.

Omah Lay said he enjoys smoking and had previously made deliberate efforts to quit but was unable to sustain them.

“I love smoking a lot. I tried to stop; I forced myself but I can’t,” he said.

The singer explained that his outlook on life has influenced his decision to accept the habit rather than continue struggling to quit.

“Life is one. I am going to just die one day. We are all going to die one day,” he said.

According to Omah Lay, he now wants to live without constantly battling himself over the habit.

“I just want to be at peace and smoke my weed,” he added.

The singer also discussed the perception of marijuana use in Nigeria, noting that its illegal status can make young people who smoke feel criminalised.

“And the fact that it is illegal in Nigeria. When you smoke weed as a young boy in Nigeria, you feel like a criminal,” he said.

Omah Lay described the feeling he gets from smoking as “artificial happiness”, while acknowledging that the effect is temporary.

“It gives me artificial happiness,” he said.

The singer added that he has reached a point where he wants to accept his lifestyle and enjoy his life rather than continually forcing himself to change.

“This is it. This is my life. I will just live it. I will enjoy every single thing that I have,” he said.
