Son, ex-wife arraigned over alleged plot to kill father
A man and his father’s former wife have appeared before a Kano Magistrate’s Court over allegations that they conspired to kill the man’s father.
The defendants, identified as Nura Usman and Izzatu Aliyu, were brought before Magistrate’s Court No. 26 sitting in Nomansland, Kano, on charges bordering on criminal conspiracy and attempted murder.
During proceedings, the prosecuting counsel, Barrister A.I. Buhari, informed the court that the case was a fresh charge and sought permission for the allegations to be formally read to the defendants.
The court granted the request, after which the court clerk, Awaisu Jajira, read the charges of conspiracy to commit an offence and attempted murder to the accused persons.
The defendants were subsequently asked to respond to the allegations against them.
The prosecution later requested an adjournment, explaining that it needed to obtain further directives from the state government regarding the continuation of the case.
The court granted the prosecution’s request and adjourned the matter to September 7, 2026, for the defendants’ official re-arraignment and further proceedings.
The allegations against the defendants remain accusations at this stage, and they are presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
The case is expected to return to court on the adjourned date as the prosecution proceeds with its case against the two defendants.
