The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has returned a former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, to its custody following his re-arraignment in court.
El-Rufai had earlier been granted temporary release from custody on March 27, 2026, to enable him to attend to family matters following the death of his mother. However, he was re-arraigned on Tuesday as legal proceedings against him continued.
The former governor appeared before the Kaduna State High Court over a separate charge filed by the ICPC. Proceedings at the state high court were stalled due to the absence of the second defendant in the matter, prompting the court to adjourn the case until April 10, 2026.

Following his appearance at the state high court, El-Rufai was subsequently taken to the Federal High Court in Kaduna, where his bail application is scheduled to be heard.
Details of the charges were not immediately disclosed in court, but the ICPC has maintained that the case forms part of its ongoing efforts to prosecute public officials over alleged corruption and related offences.
Legal observers say the coming court sessions, particularly the hearing of the bail application at the Federal High Court, will determine the immediate status of the former governor as the matter proceeds.
The development marks the latest twist in the high-profile case, which has drawn significant public and political attention in Kaduna and beyond.
