UK Police arrest 36-year-old suspect over fatal shooting of Nigerian in Manchester
A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after being brought from Turkey to the United Kingdom over the fatal shooting of a Nigerian man and another victim in Manchester in June 2020.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the suspect was detained in Turkey and transported to England on Saturday, October 10, 2026. He was met by police officers at Stansted Airport and remains in custody.
The case concerns the deaths of 36-year-old Abayomi “Junior” Ajose and 21-year-old Cheriff Tall, who were shot dead in the early hours of June 21, 2020, in a car park off Caythorpe Street in the Moss Side area of Manchester.
According to police, the shooting occurred during a gathering attended by an estimated 300 to 400 people. Investigators believe some people who were present may have information that could help clarify the circumstances surrounding the killings.
Over the past six years, detectives have carried out several searches, arrested and questioned individuals, and seized mobile phones and other items for forensic examination as part of the investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Higginson of GMP’s Major Incident Team described the arrest as a significant development but said the investigation was continuing.
Police are still appealing for witnesses and anyone with information about the killings to come forward. A £50,000 reward remains available for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of those responsible.
Anyone with relevant information can contact Greater Manchester Police on 0161 856 3691, quoting incident number 221 of June 21, 2020. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The suspect has not been convicted, and police have not announced a charge in connection with the case.
