Ex-DIG Frank Mba launches Law Firm after 34 years in Police Service

Retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Frank Mba, has officially launched his law firm, FRANK MBA LEGAL, in Abuja, marking a new phase in his professional career after 34 years of service in the Nigeria Police Force.

The unveiling ceremony, held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the firm’s office in Wuse 2, Abuja, coincided with Mba’s birthday celebration and attracted prominent government officials, serving and retired police chiefs, religious leaders, business executives, lawmakers, friends and well-wishers.

Among the distinguished guests were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; former Inspectors-General of Police Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar and Usman Alkali Baba; Convener of the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD), Pastor Jerry Eze; and Chairman of Chrome Group, Chief Sir Emeka Offor.

Other notable attendees included retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Sadiq Abubakar, retired DIG Tijani Baba and retired DIG Dan Kwara, alongside members of the National Assembly.

Three serving Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, Ekene Onwuemeelie, Isiyaku Abubakar and Suleiman Mohammed, also attended the event.

The launch formally marked Mba’s transition into legal practice following his retirement from the police force in March 2026, bringing to a close a distinguished career spanning more than three decades in law enforcement, public communication, training and institutional leadership.

Speaking at the event, Mba said his decision to establish the firm was driven by his desire to continue contributing to society by deploying his experience in policing, legal education and public service to the practice of law.

According to him, retirement should not be viewed as the end of service but as an opportunity to make meaningful contributions in a different capacity.

“Retirement is not the end of service; it is an opportunity to serve in a different capacity. My years in the Nigeria Police Force provided me with invaluable experience in leadership, discipline, conflict management and the administration of justice. I intend to bring these lessons, alongside my legal training, into this new chapter,” he said.

The former police chief described the law as an essential instrument for protecting rights, resolving disputes, promoting justice and strengthening public confidence in institutions.

“For me, the law is not merely a profession; it is an instrument for protecting rights, resolving disputes, upholding justice and strengthening confidence in our institutions.

“At FRANK MBA LEGAL, our ambition is to build a practice that clients can trust and that consistently upholds the highest standards of professional conduct,” he added.

During his 34-year career in the Nigeria Police Force, Mba held several strategic positions and earned recognition for his contributions to police administration and public engagement.

He served three times as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), becoming one of the prominent voices of the police institution in its communication with the public. He also served as the Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos State and as Commissioner of Police in Ogun State.

As a member of the police force’s management team, Mba was responsible for the Department of Training and Development, where he contributed to efforts aimed at strengthening the professional capacity of police personnel.

His career also included international service as a member of Nigeria’s police contingent to the United Nations Mission in Liberia between 2006 and 2007. His participation in the peacekeeping mission earned him the United Nations Medal.

Mba’s entry into legal practice is backed by an extensive academic and professional background in law.

He obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Lagos before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School, where he distinguished himself as an award winner. He subsequently earned a Master of Laws degree from the University of Dundee in Scotland, graduating with distinction.

He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002.

With the establishment of FRANK MBA LEGAL, the retired police chief is set to bring his legal expertise, policing experience and understanding of justice administration to a new professional environment, continuing his public service journey outside the police institution.
