Edo Tears Down Home of Suspected Organ Harvester After Woman's Death

The Edo State government has demolished a bungalow and boys’ quarters at Uwalor-Oke in Uromi, saying the suspected ritualist who owned them used the property to harvest organs from young women.

The owner, 40-year-old Ebhata Eromosele, has been arrested and is in police custody awaiting investigation and prosecution. The allegations against him have not been tested in court.

The government says Eromosele harvested organs from three young women at the property. One of them, a pregnant woman, died. Another was treated in hospital and has been discharged, and the third is still receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Esan Central Senatorial District.

Amiolemen Idemudia, coordinator of the Edo State Special Security Squad (Operation Flush Out Kidnapping and Cultists), said the trail began with a dumped body. “Ebhata Eromosele murdered a lady and dumped the body but my men on surveillance saw him and trailed him to this apartment,” he said. When operatives searched the house, he said, they found a bloodstained bedspread and other items pointing to ritual activity and organ harvesting.

Zonal Commander of the Edo State Security Corps, SP Johnson Oyameda (retd.), said the arrest followed more than a month of surveillance. It began after a mutilated woman’s body was found in a drain, and a similar case followed less than two weeks later.

In a separate operation, officials also demolished a property in Ewatto, Esan South East, belonging to Bright Ejetuwamen. Idemudia accused him of being at the centre of a cult crisis there. He has also been arrested.

Idemudia said criminals will be “wiped out” of Edo State and that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration will not spare properties used to enable crime.
