Trump renews attack on Ilhan Omar, demands Congresswoman’s resignation
US President Donald Trump has renewed his criticism of Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, accusing her of using a different name to secure election to the House of Representatives and demanding that she resign immediately.
Trump made the allegations in a post on his Truth Social account on Friday, claiming that Omar’s name was Ilhan Nur Said Elmi rather than Ilhan Omar.
He also linked the alleged name to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the man Omar was accused of marrying, amid longstanding allegations that he was her brother.
The president questioned Omar’s reported response to the controversy, in which she was quoted as saying, “Not to my knowledge,” when asked whether she had married her brother.
Trump characterised the alleged use of a different name as fraud and called on the Minnesota congresswoman to relinquish her seat in Congress.
“Therefore, because she used a fake name to be sworn in, I assume she must IMMEDIATELY resign from Congress,” Trump wrote.
He also urged House Speaker Mike Johnson to take action over what he portrayed as a concession by the Democratic Party regarding Omar’s congressional seat.

However, Trump’s post did not provide evidence establishing that Omar used a false name to obtain election to Congress or that she had admitted to electoral fraud. The allegations concerning her marriage have also been the subject of controversy for years.
Omar, a Somali-born American politician, represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District and is a prominent member of the Democratic Party.
She has repeatedly drawn criticism from Trump over her political positions, immigration background and comments on US domestic and foreign policy.
The latest attack adds to the longstanding political tensions between the president and the congresswoman, who has frequently criticised his administration.
Trump’s demand for Omar’s resignation comes amid continuing partisan disputes in Washington over immigration, national identity and the conduct of elected officials.
No evidence was provided in the president’s latest post to substantiate his claim that Omar’s alleged name constituted grounds for her removal from Congress.
