Parties call for poll cancellation in Bayelsa
Six political parties in Bayelsa state have called for the cancellation of polls in five local government areas in the state.
The local governments include Sabama, Nembe, Ekeremor, Ogbia and Yenagoa. The political parties, which also include, the Unity party of Nigeria [UPN]; Africa Congress Democrat; Alliance for Democracy; Labour Party; United Democratic Party and Hope Democratic Party coming under the umbrella of Coalition of Progressive Parties are calling for the cancellation due to alleged widespread violence that characterized the exercise calling for equity, fair play and justice.
While addressing journalist in a Press conference in Yenagoa, the Chairman, UPN and spokeperson, Mr. Silas Ikimi said if the poll of Southern Ijaw was cancelled, others mentioned should also be affected in the cancellation. ‘’if the votes from the violence-prone Southern Ijaw are to be cancelled, it is only fitting and proper that the results of Nembe, Ekeremor, yenagoa and Ogbia LGA should not have been left out.’’ He said.
