By Chioma Obinagwam
Amidst macro-economic headwinds, Fidson Healthcare Plc has said it has committed N8.2 million to its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme for the financial year ended December 31, 2016.
The company disclosed, recently, in its financial report.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a business approach that contributes to sustainable development by delivering economic, social and environmental benefits for all stakeholders.
A breakdown of the donation indicate that N1.8 million was expended on religious organisations whereas N6.4 million was disbursed to hospitals/health institutions.
According to the report, most of the beneficiaries of the programme are the vulnerable in the society.
“As a corporate entity and leading pharmaceutical company in Nigeria, it is an obligation to contribute to sustainable development in several ways; while also catering for the vulnerable in the society, especially the children,” the company disclosed.
“For over two decades of its existence, Fidson has supported the care of children, especially during their developmental stages, in a bid to make them have a sense of belonging in the larger society,” it added.
The Children Development Centre(CDC), Lagos; Children Emergency Relief Foundation (CERF), Lagos; Down Syndrome Foundation of Nigeria (DSFN), among others are also recipients of the money.
Fidson Healthcare Plc, a company engaged in the business of manufacturing, marketing and sales of pharmaceutical and healthcare products, recently completed a CGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice) compliant manufacturing facility and is one of the few Nigerian pharmaceutical manufacturers that are candidates for the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification.
